news icon Defenders: final part

"Mcheke," Vaeysa murmurs.

"What was that sir?"

"Nothing," Vaeysa snaps, turning away, "Patch him up. Let me know when we can move."

Vaeysa's world spins. He can't comprehend what is happening. He walks, unseeing, toward the river where his troops still celebrate their victory. Their demeanour gives him something other than this strange happenstance to focus on.

"Form up around Eisla. Be ready to move out on my signal." His command comes out flat and unnatural but the soldiers obey without hesitation. As they run to assume their positions Vaeysa stares at the dying Angueth as Eisla applies a bandage to his shoulder. He feels sick and lost.

"Why Mchehke?" Vaeysa whispers, "Why did you do it? Why did you have to join them? Why brother?"
