Description

In distant history the Lo-Jou were born in deep burrows, often from inside old hollow trees, with the young growing able to climb into the canopy within days. The Lo'jou grow fast after this time and are fully mature at about 1 year of age (these days birth occurs in burrows in the earth or homes in the canopy).

Lo-jou vary in size from short to tall, slim to stocky, but nearly all have four arms and two legs and a long prehensile tail. The variability of their look and size has caused many to wonder how many ethnics there may be but this is an undecided and unknown aspect of their species.

The Lo-jou commonly also have long stiff hair on their head, forearms and lower legs, and horns from the back of their head.

Males can have hairy hands and feet, and females more hair on their heads and down the neck. Fur and hair colours vary considerably with bright colours often displayed. Patches, lines or spots also feature. Some have furless patches, such as around facial features.

Creation Myth

Long ago, after the world had been made, there came into being sentient creatures of the deep earths. As they traversed the veins of minerals and formations of rock, like they were water, these beings looked up at the skies and longed to breathe the wind-torn airs, though they were reluctant to leave the world’s embrace entirely. A great firestorm ravaged the foliage above them and they decided to take a hand in the regeneration of the land.

The earth beings nurtured the growth of the forests allowing their roots to delve deep into the earth. The beings could now move within the trees and could feel the sky brushing the canopies. For eons they pursued this task and the trees grew miles high under their care. Yet the earth beings desired more and as they grew the trees grew high so they brought the Lo-Jou into existence from the rich soil to dwell in the vast canopies.

Cultures

The Lo'jou have only a single known culture on Edadh - Nuko (pronounced new-coe). The Nuko are hunter-gatherers but clans live within settlements and can be found across the whole of Edadh within the wilder regions. The Lo'jou coexist in this culture with the serpentine Seqqo (pronounced sek-oh).
