Heading - The Old Gods

A major factor that binds the clans of a culture together is their belief. Each culture has its own deities and each clan had religious leaders who educated the clan in the culture's faith and also performed the essential duty of keeping dark spirits and demons (known on Edadh as Fiadrytch) at bay. Prior to the Dzaa invasion, both gods and goddesses literally walked amongst their believers and guided their lives.

The Dzaa believe that the old gods weren't true deities but were using the cultures of Edadh in their own power struggles and as a consequence, Luageth was able to pursue his own goals with a new conviction. The Dzaa succeeded in negating the power of the old gods, not least of all through their employment of Soothsayers, Nightwarders and Wardens. All religions are now banned, all religious buildings destroyed, religious relics confiscated and anyone found to be practicing the old faiths is immediately condemned to death. Superstition has replaced the old religions and the Soothsayer's arts are in great demand.

But some still manage to keep the old ways and beliefs alive and those that remain faithful - continuing to revere the old deities - practice in secret, constantly aware of the gruesome fate that would await them if the Dzaa discovered them.
