The Hold Stratagem enables you to have Units remain at a given distance. If you have Troops with good long or short range weapons you can maximise their use with this card.
The Retreat Stratagem enables you to have Units move back so they're further away from the enemy. If you have Troops with good long range weapons you can maximise their use with this card.
If you bring this Stratagem into play you're representing your Unit gaining an advantage from the Terrain - such as gaining the high ground. You consequently get a defence bonus every round.
Similar to Terrain Advantage, this card represents your Unit dominating the Terrain. In the game you select whether a Terrain's modifiers are applied or not.
When your Unit's leader makes an Inspiring Speach it steadies the Unit against routing. The next time your Unit is Shaken, it isn't!
If your Unit or Army is Shaken it is on the verge of routing. Playing the Rally Unit card unshakes your Unit/Army and so prevents the rout.
The Square/Circle Stratagem represents a Unit moving into such a formation. This counters attacks from the side and rear but limits manoeuverability.
With the Counter Stratagem you can negate one or more of your opponent's Stratagem Cards he has in play.
With Targeted Attack you have your Troops focus their attack on one of your opponent's Troops. If your opponent has to Discard a Troop Card, you'll get to pick which one.
These are just the first Stratagem Cards. There are plenty more to come.
